A technique is disclosed wherein information searchability and the like are excellent; existing databases can be used to acquire information related to components included in a circuit or substrate drawing; and the effort required for making an electronic service manual can be reduced. According to this technique, a substrate or circuit drawing is displayed within a drawing display area. For example, network connection destination information, which includes URL information of predetermined servers, the types of information to be transmitted to the servers, and predetermined transmission methods, is read from the local hard disc of a PC (personal computer) or the like. When a predetermined operation, such as a right-click, is made on a graphic element, the network connection destination information is referred to, thereby producing and displaying menu information in which any of the predetermined servers can be selected. Moreover, when a predetermined server in the menu information is selected, a component corresponding to component identification information associated with the selected graphic element is searched for to acquire its information. A search request is made to the predetermined server, and a search result is displayed on the display device.
