The method relates to communication technique, especially related to frame relay in WAN protocol and Ethernet in LAN protocol. The invention allocates MAC address for remote network device connected by passing through frame relay and Ethernet. The MAC address is as id of remote network device, and map table between MAC address and network identity of frame relay. Based on the map table, conversion and forwarding data between frame relay and Ethernet protocol are carried out. In the invention, transmission channel is transparent for IP layer and upper application layer by using technique of frame relay and Ethernet interconnection to complete conversion between practical protocols. Features are: supporting relevant route protocol, flexible network planning. Assigning MAC address for remote network site by central server self. The invention can be realized in access devices in transmission network so as to provide richer interface than router to remote network site. |
