A tooth whitening chewing gum composition effective to remove stains from teeth is prepared from a mixture of a chewing gum base, plasticizing, sweetening, flavoring agents, and about 0.5 to about 5.0% by weight of a silica particles, the particles containing about 5 to about 35% by weight water and having a mean particle size from 5 to 12 microns; an Einlehner hardness of from 1 to 20; an oil absorption value of from 40 to less than 100 cc/100g; and a BET surface area from 100 to 700 m<2>/g of silica. |
